This webinar is the newest in the Global ESCO Network webinar series and explores the key role of building renovation in meeting EU energy and climate targets, focusing on Energy Performance Contracts (EPCs).
Our Regulatory Barriers for Energy Service Companies 2024 (3rd edition) Report confirmed that access to affordable finance is one of the most prominent barriers faced by ESCOs. Consultations from Global ESCO Network Partners also confirmed that access to traditional finance from financial institutions, especially by smaller and upcoming ESCOs, is often hindered by banks’ collateral requirements and understanding of EPC. This webinar explores and provides practical examples of how innovative financing, through lending and equity crowdfunding, can bridge this financing gap. Crowdfunding offers a citizen-driven solution that can mobilize finance at scale while also targeting smaller-scale projects, but despite progress, challenges such as limited funding and a lack of standardized financing models persist. The webinar panellists will discuss the impact, best practices, and barriers of crowdfunding, including regulatory gaps, as well as the importance of stable policies to scale these models. The session will also present crowdfunding in the LEGOFIT EU project by Ener3Crowd, which involves residents in renovation decisions and introduces energy-performance-based interest rates to boost sustainable investments.
