India’s per capita carbon emissions are low, about 1.8 tons, but the combined figure makes it the third largest emitter globally. The Energy Conservation Act in 2001 introduced energy service companies in the country to induce private capital into energy efficiency. This makes India one of the important markets for ESCO services, where ESCOs have been active for more than two decades. In this webinar, Ms. Aarti Nain, Advisor at UNEP India’s Urban Cooling Program, will give her insights on India’s ESCOs as a long-time observer and participant in the Indian market for energy efficiency. The webinar will examine public policies and regulations at the national and sub-national levels for ESCO markets in India. The current market trends and typical ESCO projects will be explained and challenges and driving factors will be reviewed to understand the potential for growth.
